The Battle Is the Lord'sনমুনা
God’s army
Today’s story is about the prophet Elisha. He was in danger, for the king of Syria was determined to catch him.
The king had been told: “Elisha, the prophet from Israel, can tell the king of Israel many secret things—even the words that you speak in your bedroom!” This explained why Syria’s plans to attack Israel by surprise failed over and over again! Of course, the king was not pleased to hear this. He sent horses and chariots and a great army to catch the prophet.
When Elisha’s servant saw the army, he was greatly afraid. But there was no need to panic, the prophet told him, “for those who are with us are more than those who are with them”. The Israelite army was nowhere to be seen. But when the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, “he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” God had sent a heavenly army to protect them, but it was only visible to people whose eyes had been opened.
This story teaches us that God can intervene in a situation without us even noticing it. His heavenly army is real, and God can use it to protect his children.

About this Plan
The Battle Is the Lord’s. There is a spiritual battle going on between God and Satan (see the reading plan “The Great Battle”). There are also a lot of wars and battles going on between humans. And sometimes there is a clear connection between the two. This reading plan covers several Bible stories about earthly battles where the Lord was clearly involved.
