Imperfect Dads, One Perfect Fatherনমুনা
Fathers Who Mirror God
3 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
Psalm 127:3-5 (New International Version)
Did you know our first impression of God comes from our parents? Yes, even if you’d never heard of Him, by his loving nature, God created us for relationship with Him. In that creation model, God mirrors the way a loving parental connection is supposed to be. God is the perfect example of what it looks like to be a dad.
Our desire should be to set our sights on His ways so that they become our ways in moving us toward being more perfect as a father. That’s called modeling, and it’s how we learn to do either right or wrong. It’s also why making a wise choice about who sets the example is so important. God the Father is that perfect example, and by working to be like Him, we cannot go wrong.
If we grew up without a dad or had a bad example of what a godly dad should be, then all we know is that example. The beauty of grace is we’re not trapped in the absence of a good example. There is a better way, and along with that is an actual instruction manual on fatherhood—the Bible.
