Uncommen: Dad Strongনমুনা
Words That Echo
Colossians 4:6 will show us how to speak with trust and grace to your children.
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt.
We want to speak to our children with truth and grace so we can reach them, and they will be open to listening. If we yell, swear, or lash out when they try to talk with us, we will erode our children's trust. How often would you listen to someone who was always yelling at you? If we don't give them our attention when trying to talk to us, we lose their trust.
It takes work to learn to communicate well, and because your children are continually growing, it's a bit of a moving target.
You may know how you ought to answer each person.
This part of our verse screams for wisdom. For us to speak graciously and seasoned with salt, we should be in God's word daily and praying for wisdom. I have two sons, and they communicate differently. One is more open, while the other is more reserved. Learning how to communicate with each one took some listening and learning on my part. One was independent and wanted to handle things himself. The other wanted to ask questions before making a decision.
Did I always get it right? Absolutely not. There were times when I needed to apologize and ask for forgiveness. It's essential to build that relationship on open communication.
Extra Credit: You don't always have to be funny; you don't have to be the heavy, either. Be consistent and approachable, and your children will thank you for it when they are older.
