The Wisdom of Remembering & the Wisdom to Forget

DAY 2 OF 12

God will not remember our sins

In Isaiah 43:22-25, God sums up what the Israelites failed to do: to make clear that their behavior was no ground for forgiveness. They did not call upon the Lord. They did not bring him sacrifices. On the contrary, they wearied him with their sins and iniquities. But then comes a remarkable verse: the Lord says that He will nevertheless forgive them! Not because they earned his mercy, but “for his own sake.” This is the only possible ground for forgiveness, and one that will never change. God’s promise of grace is not based on our good works, but on his loving faithfulness.

God promises not to remember the people’s sins. In Micah 7:19, we read how He will “cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” If we ask God for forgiveness, we can be sure that He will not hold our sins against us anymore. When He forgives us, He will not remember our failures and transgressions any longer.

This is a powerful message of hope for people who are wrestling with sins from the past. When you have received forgiveness, your sins have been completely removed from you. They are gone forever!
