Day 2: Choose Your Own Adventure
I love the view from the edge. One of my very favorite things is to hike or climb or fly to a high vantage point where the vista is expansive, and you can’t help but stand in awe. I am one of those people who relish standing close to the edge and taking in all that beauty. I sit and let my feet swing freely over the ledge, or I lay flat on my belly and look down, hanging my head over for the full experience.
My husband, Tim, on the other hand, stands back and enjoys the panorama from a comfortable distance. I love the exhilarating freedom and a little surge of adrenaline, while he enjoys the view from his own safe perspective. He follows the rules and I may push the limits just a bit, but we are both standing on that mountaintop. Even though our views are slightly different, we both have an adventure mentality – an outlook that every moment has potential to bring something amazing, a sight to behold, or a lesson learned.
You see, this is a mindset rather than a location or a physical position. My idea of adventure may be different than yours, or yours may be far more extreme than mine, but what people with an adventure mentality have in common is a desire to experience life deeply. To soak in all the love and joy they possibly can and to have enough overflowing to share with others. You can embody this passion, do it in your own way, and be led by God’s Holy Spirit. You can live with an adventure mentality and you don’t have to do it just like me or anyone else, but you do have to make a conscious effort.
Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” God has hidden treasures for us to discover; we just have to look for them!
No matter what you choose…whether you are pushing the limits to the ledge, or you prefer to take in the panoramic view from a distance, life should be an adventure…let’s live it to the fullest!
What kind of adventurer are you? Will you pick up that guitar in the back of your closet? Take your kids on a flashlight walk, start that book, meet your neighbors? Today, decide that you are going to take one step to starting your life of adventure!
