Your Soul Needs God First
Your soul will remain sick and disintegrated for as long as it is separated from God. The key to a healthy soul is an authentic relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Anything that separates us from God – whatever that may be – is sin, and that will destroy you. God wants us to be in union with Him through His Son because it is actually for our own good. Without Him, we’re as good as dead even before we actually die!
Now we can always aspire for other things, or people, instead of God. Our souls will always crave for connection and fulfillment. But our true and real need is authentic life-giving relationships with God, and then, as a result, with others as well. God comes first. Others come second. That is how our souls will be integrated again.
When we choose to get connected with God first, our souls will begin to come alive, because God is the source of life, real life. Then we can love others as well, resulting in more vibrancy in our lives. We can also begin to love ourselves in the right way. We are most happy and fulfilled when God comes first, and then through Him we can also love others.
But when we direct our energies to other things or other people first, or even to ourselves first, they, or we, will become idols, false substitutes for God. They will begin to replace God as the center of our lives. The result will be sin and sin separates us from God, who is the source of all true life, and also from others.
When your soul is not in communion with God on a day-to-day basis, for whatever reason, your soul will become sick and unhealthy. When your body is deprived of water or food, it slowly dies. In the same way, sin kills the soul, presently and, eventually, eternally.
We can call that "slow death". Our souls will begin to whither and die spiritually. We are not meant for idolatry but for the worship of our one and only true God, the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through Jesus we can worship God in spirit and truth. Real life is when we finally know God through Jesus Christ. That’s when our souls will find true rest. This is good news!

About this Plan
How would you describe your life right now? Awesome? Miserable? If you're like most people, you will describe your life as all the things that you do each day, including perhaps all the relationships you have. Of course, that is your life. But is that all there is to your life? Sadly, if that's all we think about life, we will miss out on what real life is all about. In this devotional we want you to learn that there is a kind of life that is so much better than the best life you can ever imagine.
