Momentum: How to Get Unstuck

DAY 3 OF 5

If you ever wander into the arid abyss that makes up the border of Texas, spend an evening at the McDonald Observatory. About an hour from the Rio Grande, near historic Terlingua, you can view stars and planets through telescopes up to twenty-four feet long, with names and strengths I cannot decipher. We attended a midnight stargazing event recently. The expert astronomer waxed eloquent about constellations and advancements of science in his arena, which didn’t hold my attention given the hour. That was until he mentioned Polaris.

Polaris, known as the North Star, is what astrologers use as the focal point for interpreting the “Celestial Globe” or the Zodiac. In astrology, a constellation’s appearance during a certain window of time determines a person’s Zodiac sign. What my midnight astronomer illuminated in the sky was that Polaris, the fixed point in the system, has moved, making the dating associated with the Zodiac calendar inaccurate, and the predictions, well, not so predictable. The focus, an astrologer’s True North—has changed.

Do you feel True North has gone missing? Have you lost your focus? When the entire world turns upside down and seems shaken like a snow globe, a loss of proper focus can occur. Over the last year, I felt my focus drifting. That sense I knew my purpose slipped further away. Like peering through a window of my soul, it seemed more remote and far removed. In time, it felt as if my True North had shifted.

At home, I can’t see diddly in the sky past the haze of the city night lights. But nine hours west, forty-five minutes from the nearest convenience store, where rodents rule and residents live off the grid—the sky is a symphony. With the naked eye, heavenly bodies emblazon a once darkened sky. The stars haven’t moved. I have.

Our True North doesn't change or shift or move. We do

To find our focus, it’s essential to look and listen. Look expecting Him to reveal what you need. Listen anticipating an answer will come.

Today, ask God to remind you of what has been your focus. Ask Him if that is still His Word to you today and wait for Him to respond. If you don’t know, intently look to the Lord and listen expectantly.

Like finally seeing the brilliance that is in the night sky, I pray God reveals His focus for your life.
