The Giver, Not the Gifts
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
The news of King Hezekiah’s life having been extended by 15 years had reached Babylon. The king of Babylon sent some of his men to come to visit Hezekiah. When they met Hezekiah, Hezekiah gave them a tour around his magnificent palace, glamorous wealth, and shining gold. He did not even talk about God, who was the giver of all those great things, who had healed him and who had extended his life! Hezekiah did not acknowledge God in front of the king of Babylon.
People have the tendency to forget God when things go perfectly well.
It's human nature to become overjoyed with the gifts God gives us. The lesson for us today is that we must always be grateful to the giver of the gift, and do not just focus on the gift itself. Acknowledge the Giver and do not brag about the gifts, because they all come from God alone.
Prayer
Dear God, I recognize that anything good in my life is a gift from You. You are the merciful Giver of my blessings. Amen.
