Leah
Sometimes you can feel lonely even when you are surrounded by lots of people. This is Leah’s story. Leah was Jacob’s first wife, and the wife he never wanted. Her father tricked Jacob into marrying her when he really wanted her sister, Rachel. But Leah was still Jacob’s wife, so they had children together. Leah and Jacob had six sons, but still, Leah was unloved and alone. She thought with each new child that Jacob would finally love her, but he always favored Rachel, especially when Rachel finally gave birth to her first son, Joseph.
Maybe you resonate with Leah. You keep striving to make better grades, to be the best on your sports team, to be the prettiest, coolest, richest, or most popular because then people will love you, right? Unfortunately, that is usually not how things turn out. That attention is fleeting like Jacob’s was with Leah.
In those moments when you are surrounded by people but feel more alone than anything, remember that God is always pursuing your presence. He longs to celebrate with you and cry with you. He wants to be there for the good and the bad and everything in between. What is stopping you from inviting Jesus into your loneliness?
