Fruit Bowl

DAY 33 OF 63

Kindness through Correction

We normally attribute kindness to someone being generous or friendly towards us. In this verse, we see quite the opposite. Here, kindness is expressed through correction and rebuking. The correction and rebuke is given by someone who stands justified in the eyes of God, who knows what is right and is able to guide someone towards that.

Have you ever been corrected or rebuked? How did it feel? I once heard that even from an insult we should be willing to hear the 1% that could be true. Be open to that 1% of truth brought through insult, correction, or rebuke. It’s a deeply humbling moment. A moment described as “oil on my head” which essentially is considered a blessing.

It’s a blessing because it’s a powerful symbol of being set apart and holy in the eyes of God.

We may pray against “evildoers” and this is good. But have we considered our own offenses against God as harshly? Consider when was the last time you recognised the weight of your sin? When was the last time you repented? Repented deeply? In Christ today we can come before God and receive His forgiveness and grace.

Our verse today reminds us of the power to be in communion with God and His family - brothers and sisters of Christ. By engaging and surrounding ourselves with this company (the church) we pave a way for this kindness. This type of kindness can lead us down the path everlasting. We will not refuse it, we will allow it and we will regard it as a blessing. A blessing that draws us to holiness.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for Jesus and His humbling sacrifice on the cross. Thank you that through His death and resurrection we are made Holy and acceptable before You. Lord, we ask for humility when we are corrected and rebuked. Help us see this as a kindness that leads us to the path everlasting. Thank you that this kindness reflects your heart and desire for me to be more like Jesus. Amen.

About this Plan

Fruit Bowl

Fruit Bowl is a 9-week deep dive into the Fruit of the Spirit put together by the Naujavan community. Jesus said, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit is the result of spending quality time with God, allowing Him to shape and form us.” We hope this devotional encourages you to do just that.
