SERVING
By Nick Kalb
Story
Have you ever had to talk to a counselor? Whenever I was sent to the counselor’s office, I became tongue-tied. She sat behind a desk while I sat in a chair looking at my hands, unable to say what was going in my heart. That all changed once I joined the cleaning team at church. Once my hands were busy, I was able to open up with the people that served with me. They became my friends, and I was able to ask them about stuff I would never ask a counselor. All of that because I decided to serve! Since that time, I’ve served God and never looked back!
Bible
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." — Ephesians 2:10
Think
God made you for a reason! It’s our special mission to serve others and tell them about Jesus. It’s easy to think that our main goal in life is success and happiness, but that’s not true. The reason we are alive is because God loves us, and made us to serve.
If we make serving God our goal, we get happiness thrown in, but we need to put God first. Jesus Himself said that He came to serve people.
When we commit ourselves to serving God in some way, we are bringing good and order into the world. We are setting things right. God cares so much about you that He actually has good work for you that He planned before the creation of the world. It’s when I started serving God as part of a church that my life started changing at home.
Do Something
There’s LOTS of ways even a kid can get involved in serving. Ask a pastor or other church leader where you can get plugged in. Whether it’s cleaning, helping in a classroom, or worship, there’s a place for you!
Pray
Dear God, thank You for making me special. Help me to do the works You created me to do long ago. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
