DAY 5 OF 5

Devotional:

Jesus Continues the Mission

This study began with Jesus in a synagogue identifying himself as the fulfillment of the passages from Isaiah. In the passages you have read this week - Luke shows clearly that Jesus was telling the truth.  Jesus preaching the good news, freeing the oppressed, and healing the hurting demonstrates his fulfillment of the prophecy. Then, he rested. Today, the verse reads, “and he kept on preaching…”

Leaders who help others understand how difficult it can be to “keep going” - especially in busy seasons. Jesus provides in these passages a healthy leadership model and a deep understanding for the needs around him. Jesus knew the mission he was on. He also experienced significant pain and rejection. Yet, he continued doing ministry in spite of this. Then, after resting, reconnecting with his Father, he continued.

In Matthew 5:9-10, Jesus gives a couple of blessings to those you share their faith and help others heal. He says that you will be called a child of God. He promises them that you will inherit the kingdom of heaven. In Matthew 28:20, he promises to be with you always.

Today’s Challenge:

As you reflect on some of the passages you have read through - consider a couple of things.

1  - If, during the introspection this week, you have uncovered something that requires more care (a health problem, a mental issue, a spiritual struggle), don’t be ashamed to get help. Jesus cared for people - and he cares for you. Value yourself as he does.

2 - As you continue ministry - remember that Jesus is with you. Think about what it means for him to be present the next time you’re preaching, counseling, teaching, or helping - imagine where he’s standing. Imagine what he would say to you or to the person you are caring for. Journal a couple of examples and what you think he might say if he were there with you.

A Final Word:

For anyone who works with hurting people, the path isn’t usually easy, but it is good. This devotional was written for leaders like you because we know how difficult it can be, and we want to support you. If you’re someone who works with hurting people, the Rally Point team wants to “have your back” the next time you are faced with a complicated situation or a ministry challenge.
