Comeback: An Easter Devotional for Kids

DAY 1 OF 8

Palm Sunday

By the Calvary Kids Team

Hey! Thanks for joining us to talk about the Easter story that we read about in the book of Mark! We hope you enjoy getting to learn more about the days leading up to Easter, and that you grow in your relationship with Jesus!

Have you ever been so excited for something that you literally couldn’t hold in your excitement? You screamed or jumped up and down, banged on your desk, or took a couple of laps around the room? When I was in first grade, I got a game boy for Christmas. I was so excited that when I unwrapped it, I started sprinting around my house and jumping all over the couches and walls! Kind of weird . . . I know.

In the Easter story, which comes from the Bible, it starts with people getting super excited about Jesus coming to their city. For over three years, Jesus was making his way to Jerusalem, and he finally arrived. Read the verses listed below, and then come back for some questions!

Mark 11:7–10 (NIRV)

"They brought the colt to Jesus. They threw their coats over it. Then he sat on it. Many people spread their coats on the road. Others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those in front and those in back shouted, 'Hosanna!' 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord' (Psalm 118:25,26)! 'Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!' 'Hosanna in the highest heaven!'"

  1. Take 15 seconds, close your eyes, and imagine what the crowd must have sounded like if you were there in person. How would you describe it?
  2. What would you have shouted if you were there with a huge crowd welcoming Jesus into the city?
  3. “Hosanna” means, Save! Why do you think people were shouting, “Save!” at Jesus?

It’s pretty awesome that Jesus was treated like a king when He came into Jerusalem. But pretty soon we will see how the people there treated Him as just the opposite of a king; a criminal. Come back tomorrow to learn about the time Jesus got really mad at some church people.

Dear God, thank You that you sent Your Son Jesus on a mission to rescue us. We want to praise You because You are good and faithful, even when we are not. Help us to learn about You in our hearts this week. Amen!
