Bold Faith - Part 4 - SE Students

DAY 2 OF 5

Having faith requires commitment, and bold faith lasts beyond right now. In order for it to last, it has to be a promise that’s bigger than the moment or situation you’re in. Imagine a wedding ceremony: a husband and wife make vows to each other that last far beyond that day – a commitment “until death do us part.” That kind of promise is a big deal, and it means both people are saying YES to each other and NO to the option of dating or marrying someone else. Having faith in God is like this – it is a commitment that lasts far beyond the moment you’re in and far into your future. It also means there will be some things you say no to.

In today’s reading, Joshua told the Israelites to “throw away all other gods” and fear the Lord only. He challenged them to make a choice whom they will serve: the one true God or the gods of the world. Having faith and being faithful means that you are choosing that there is ONE God and you will look to Him only.

Distractions and temptations will come. There will be things in life that try to draw you away in the years to come, and there might even be moments that you stray from God. But if you make a choice today to follow Him with your life, it means you are saying YES to Him and NO to the things of this world. When you say yes to God, you are making the best commitment you could ever make, because we know that He will always make good on His end of the promise, even when we will fail. He always keeps His promises to us. Will you choose today whom you will serve?
