So, cut yourself some slack. It’s hard to see Him sometimes. It can be hard to hear Him, but listen well. The waves are saying “sickness,” but His voice is saying “healed.” The waves are saying “broke,” but His voice is saying “prosper.” The waves are saying “fear,” but He says “faith.”
The waves say, “You are going to sink.”
He says, “Step out and walk.”
If you trust His voice, He’s not going to let you fall. Even more, He’s going to help you soar. Jesus did not need Peter to walk on water to survive that storm. Peter was just fine in the boat that was built for survival on the sea, just like the other guys, but Jesus wasn’t interested in survival. He wanted Peter—you, me, all of us—to thrive.
People can survive. You can buy water and toilet paper and canned food and build a storm shelter and wear a life jacket, and you will, likely, survive. Surviving is what you can do. Thriving is what you need God to do. Surviving is playing it safe. Thriving is taking risks of faith and deciding not to fear what God can use to help you grow.
There are lots of sides to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s up to all of us to be responsible and respectful and do what we can for the safety and well-being of others. However, it’s also on us to look for opportunities to grow.
You may have been quarantined with your family without realizing that God was using this time together to make your family stronger than it’s ever been. You may have been putting an education or an act of service off for years because you didn’t have the time. While we’re home, a lot of us have nothing but time.
This isn’t to say to take the coronavirus lightly or to diminish the impact it is having worldwide. What I am saying is to look for Jesus in these waves. Listen for His voice.
