Shipwrecked – Making Jesus the One Thingনমুনা
Land Ho!
Imagine you are an explorer, sailing the high seas looking for the land of paradise. You have sailed the entire globe without success, until… one day over the horizon you see the most beautiful sight you have ever seen. A land of unspoiled beauty with lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and pristine beaches. This is it! This is what you have been searching for all your life!
This is how I felt when I first understood who Jesus was and what He offered. I am sure it is how many of us felt. We knew He was The One. In Him was the love we longed for. In Him was the purpose we lacked. In Him was the answer to our questions.
But once you get a glimpse of who Jesus is, you are faced with a decision. Will you go sell all you have and buy the plot of land? Will you give up the life of a seafarer sent from your homeland and instead make a living in this new frontier? Will you cast aside your old familiar life for a new life in unfamiliar and uncharted territory?
It’s the question we all face (sometimes more than once in a lifetime). It is the question we all have to settle once and for all.
In Hebrews 11, the writer says that the great heroes of faith, like Abraham, were looking for a city whose designer and builder was God. They gave their lives in search of it but never experienced it. Further, God said that had they desired to return to the land from which they came, He would have given them the opportunity. How sad that would have been.
What was promised to our forefathers of the faith has been made manifest to us through the blood of Jesus Christ! We have come to the city of the living God! Will we enter in? This is not a question solely for the newly saved. This is for all of us. Some of us may be like the children of Israel wandering in the desert; seeing the mighty works of God in our midst but still longing for the place that we came from. Maybe we have been Christians for a long time. Maybe we even grew up in church. Yet we are still wandering on the outskirts. We have not surrendered our lives completely to Christ. He still hasn’t become our ‘one thing’. So, the question remains, will we enter in?
Points to pray/journal:
· Lord, is there any part of my life that I refuse to give up for You or surrender to You?
· Jesus, show me the surpassing beauty of Your glory. Captivate my heart Lord.
Declarations:
· Jesus, You are sufficient for me! You are all I need! You are all I want!
· I give You complete control Jesus! I surrender totally to Your will for my life!
About this Plan
Are you sold out for Jesus? Is He your One Thing? Is He your greatest treasure and your closest friend? If not, what's stopping you from inhabiting that place of total surrender? Over the next 4 days we invite you to ignite your passion and make Jesus that One Thing in your life!
