Grace Filled Nursing

DAY 3 OF 4

Caring with Compassion

Compassion, Compassion, Compassion. I absolutely love this word and definition. The New Oxford American Dictionary defines compassion as the sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings and misfortunes of others. Compassion, my friend is the heartbeat of nursing. Compassion helps us connect with our patients in a special way and manifest the necessary virtues needed to impact and influence their lives. Let’s look at pure compassion at its finest!

In the book of Matthew, we see several times in the scriptures where Christ was moved with compassion. Compassion actually sets in motion miracles, signs, and wonders to manifest. Christ allowed the compassion He felt for a person to be an indicator that Grace was needed in that moment. Matthew 14:14 KJV, “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them and He healed their sick.” He saw, He moved, and He healed. Wow! What if we took on this same pattern? What if we allowed pure compassion to lead us to care for our patients in this profound way. No judgments, no misconceptions, no hidden agendas, simply pure compassion that would manifest the favor of God to fall fresh on them.

Colossians 3:12 tells us, “therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” You have been chosen my friend. So clothe yourself accordingly. Let this be your uniform. Let this be your attire for this present age.  Let this be your quality of care. Caring with compassion. Compassion that invites the presence of God to flow continuously.
