Life On Mission

DAY 4 OF 30

For many people, the Holy Spirit is mystical, ambiguous and super strange. It doesn’t help at all that the Holy Spirit is often referred to as the Holy Ghost in many circles. This haunting element of the Godhead is less creepy than many think or have experienced. Partnering with the Holy Spirit should be more common and increasingly effortless. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he said these words, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8)” Notice that Jesus didn’t warn that the Holy Spirit would come to bring division, chaos, emotionalism or weirdness. The Holy Spirit would come to bring... power. Not just power to greedily acquire but power to do something with; power to witness and power to reflect God’s amazing attributes.

The promised Holy Spirit has come and is available to each of us. The ramifications of the filling of the Holy Spirit might have less to do with your Sunday church experience than you thought before. Your greatest representation of the power of the Holy Spirit might not be when you are surrounded by other Christians; they look, talk and act just like you. However, as God’s spirit works in your life, it will be on display, to its greatest degree, in the chaos of our world. That’s where peace really shines, amidst chaos.

Maybe you’ve invited Jesus into your life and that was a great and holy moment. Ephesians 5:18 encourages us to continually be filled with the Holy Spirit, meaning, we should be in constant saturation of the Holy Spirit. This takes intentionality. Your fridge doesn’t miraculously produce groceries. No, you notice the need and you create time in your day to go to the store. Take time today to invite the Holy Spirit into your life to a greater degree.

Ask God to meet you during your time of prayer and empower you afresh. Take time to listen and have a Bible ready if a scripture reference comes up. Remember, the Holy Spirit is a person and people talk, so listen.

About this Plan

Life On Mission

Welcome to the Life on Mission devotional. We can often get overwhelmed with the demands of life and chaos of our world. We quickly forget that God has a mission for us while on earth. There are amazing things for you to see, do and accomplish and God empowers you to do all of them. This devotional is meant to get your life out of a rut and onto God’s mission for your life. Every third day there will be a “mission” for you to apply to your life. We’re God’s people, on a mission, to reflect his goodness to the entire world. Let’s do this!
