Lessons ~ Jesus Feeding the Five Thousandনমুনা
Our Spiritual Journey
Jesus was moved with compassion for the people (Mark 6:34, 8:2-3). He was concerned for them holistically. This is what we need to ask from God. “Lord, give me a heart just as yours, a heart of compassion for the people”. His desire for us as His disciples is to step in to meet the need of the people (Luke 9:13).
The Lord was moving Philip along on his spiritual journey. Philip was a gifted evangelist. It is not only what we read about Philip in Acts chapter eight but we can see this gift of an evangelist demonstrated early in the gospels.
Philip knew that Jesus was the Messiah and he could not keep this truth to himself. He wanted his friend, Nathanael to also meet and get to know the Messiah, personally (John 1:44-46). The Greeks came to worship at the temple and it was Philip, whom they approached to introduce them to Jesus. Philip carried on him, the gift of an evangelist (John 12:20-22).
Though Philip was an evangelist already, he needed to move on, on his spiritual journey. Here in the incident of the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:5-7), we find the Lord moving Philip to a higher level of understanding Him. Philip the evangelist had to see Jesus as the El-Shaddai, the God who supplies and as Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides.
Philip also had to see Jesus as the Elohim the Creator God and the Father God (John 14:8-9).
Do we see how patiently the Lord moves each of us forward in our spiritual journey?
Thought to ponder
Would it be our single desire to know more of Jesus?
