Speak Your Name: Devotions and Declarations on the Reality of Jesusনমুনা
Jesus, My Confidence
When we hear the word “fear” it's usually used in terms of being afraid of something, but did you know there is a kind of fear that brings life?
The fear that Proverbs 14:26 is talking about is the fear of the Lord. This fear doesn’t mean to be afraid of God, but it's the kind of fear that reveres and stands in awe of Him more than anything or anyone else. It's a fear and confidence that knows His Word is final and more powerful than anything else. This kind of fear produces supernatural confidence that will truly transform our lives as well as the lives of those around us.
A perfect example of this confidence is found in 1 Samuel 17, the story of David and Goliath. David didn’t look at the natural. David had supernatural confidence from God. When the Israelites were faced with Goliath, every one of them was terrified and afraid, except for David. David didn’t fear man. David's confidence was rooted in God, the One he knew had been fighting for him every day.
If you’ve never heard the story of David and Goliath, it ends with David slaying the giant that everyone feared with just a slingshot and stone. David didn’t show up with an army. He didn’t even wear battle armor for that matter. But He did show up with great confidence.
What the Israelites didn’t know about David is that part of his job tending to sheep meant he was killing lions and bears with his bare hands. Day after day, David had seen the God of Israel give him the strength to fight the lion and the bear, protect him, and be his refuge. David’s place of surrender and trust in God produced the confidence he needed to defeat the giant in front of him.
This is the confidence you have in Jesus. No matter what giant may come, you need not fear it. Simply speak the name of Jesus.
Declaration Prayer:
Jesus, You are my confidence. Help me to fear Your name above every other name that is to be named. The giant of the fear of man has no hold on me. The giant of doubt and insecurity has no hold on me. You are my confidence and my refuge. Thank You, Jesus!
