Revelation Benediction: Devotions From Time Of Graceনমুনা
Revelation benediction #5: You’re immortal
Pretty much everybody knows what it’s like to be mocked, shamed, humiliated, and ridiculed. Sometimes those things come because of your faith. Persecution of Christians began soon after Christ ascended into heaven, and in one way or another it hasn’t stopped. People today still suffer for their Christian faith.
The book of Revelation reveals that all Christians are winners. Those who came to faith in Christ have arisen from the spiritual death into which they were born; they have already undergone the “first resurrection”: “Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death [that is, condemnation to the endless torments of hell] has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6).
You may or may not be aware of it, but you have a priestly ministry in service to God and to your Savior Jesus. You are authorized and equipped to represent him during your life on earth and invited to intercede for others through your priestly prayers. In fact, the entire New Testament era (here “1,000 years” in Revelation symbolism) will see the living church carrying out its life-giving ministry. Satan with all his power will not be able to snuff it out.
Yes, you are that valuable to God. Yes, your work is that important. Yes, you will live forever.
