Daily Bible Reading–January 2021 God's Word of Lifeনমুনা
January 16
Introduction
Jesus returns to the other side of the lake and is back in Jewish territory where he is met by a large crowd. An official from the local synagogue begs Jesus to heal his daughter. Within the crowd is a woman who seeks to be healed; she approaches Jesus and touches his cloak.
Today's Scripture Reading
Luke 8:40-56
Today’s Key Verse: Luke 8:48
Jesus said to her, “My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
Reflect
Today we read about two more healings that Jesus performed. Jairus’s request for Jesus to heal his daughter is interrupted by the healing of a woman who, according to Levitical law, was ritually unclean because of her illness (Leviticus 15:19-30). What risk did she take by approaching Jesus? What did Jesus say to her? When Jesus arrives at Jairus’s house, why do the people make fun of him? What do these two healings teach us about faith?
Pray
Compassionate Lord, in your mercy you reach out to touch and heal. Empower me to be an instrument of your love and peace and to offer the comforting words of your saving love to those who are hurting and need your care. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those serving in the medical field
Tomorrow’s Reading
Luke 9:1-17: Jesus sends out the twelve disciples to preach and heal.
