Forty Days Without Fear

DAY 31 OF 40

OVERCOMING FEAR OF THE DEVIL

Since the beginning of time, humanity has come face to face with the ‘Adversary,’ ‘the Slanderer’ or the one more widely known as ‘Satan’, or the ‘Devil.’ But how worried should we be about the enemy?

The truth is, God is not in an arm-wrestling match with the Devil. They are not equal sparring partners. We hear about an eternal battle between ‘Good and Evil’, but the truth is the end has already been written, and if we didn’t know it already, God is the victorious One and the enemy is defeated. In reality, the only power the Devil has is to twist the truth, and us agree with his lies, rather than believing God’s truth! We need to remind ourselves that in Christ, we too are victorious.

If the truth is that we are victorious in Christ, no weapon formed against us will prosper. No evil spirit can stand toe-to-toe with the name of Jesus, but the Devil and his demons can have a field day when we forget that God has already conquered them; when we forget that we’re on the winning side, and when we forget that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, lives inside us.

Daily, we must put on the armour of God, which keeps us in truth and protects us from lies and accusation. Where we have received lies and found agreement with the Devil through our life experiences, we need God’s truth to heal and restore us. There is no higher name than the name of Jesus, and as God’s children, we have everything we need to overcome the enemy’s schemes in our lives.

Action: Worship is a great way of declaring truth, drawing closer to God, and lifting Jesus’ name above any enemy schemes. Let’s lift up a shout of praise, turn our music up loud, and remind ourselves that the Spirit inside us is greater than any enemy we come up against. Let’s bring any negative feelings and false beliefs we carry about ourselves before God. Things like, I’m not good enough, I’m a failure, I’m alone. What does God say about who we are? Write it down, declare and believe it!
