Forty Days Without Fear

DAY 3 OF 40

OBSTACLES OR OPPORTUNITIES?

In the book of Exodus, we read about one of the great heroes of the faith, Moses, who was asked by God to gather His people and lead them out of Egypt, the place where they were enslaved. For Moses, this involved risking everything, and it came with numerous obstacles; the uprooting of families, Pharaoh’s refusal to let them go, and the rebellion of some of the people.

But miraculously God made a way, and Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and they ended up at the Red Sea. The sea was in front of them and the Egyptians were pursuing them from behind; it seemed there was no hope of finding a way out. We all know the amazing story of Moses leading the people through the Red Sea, its waters standing up to let them through, but what we often forget is that God turned Moses’ greatest obstacle into his greatest opportunity for success. It was because of the Red Sea that the Egyptians were defeated, and the Israelites were set free.

Obstacles are a part of life, and they always seem to throw themselves at us when we are trying to do something for God, or take an opportunity to innovate. The obstacles will look different for each of us, but if God is in it, we can trust that our obstacles are actually opportunities in disguise.

Moses was faced with numerous roadblocks, yet he knew God called him to something, so he placed his trust in God. Every Red Sea we face is an opportunity for God to innovate through us so we [and others] can go where He has called us to go for our greater freedom, and His glory.

Action: What obstacles are we facing at this time? Pray and present them to God and write down what we think, hear, see or feel. What does He want us to know about them and how can we see them as opportunities for success?
