Affair Prevention in Marriageনমুনা
None of us are on the same page all the time in our marriage. It's how we handle the differences that makes the difference. God created each of us uniquely. Therefore each marriage is unique. With God’s help we can embrace our differences instead of letting them tear us apart.
One area where Adam and Kristi differed was finances. In today’s video, we hear a bit of Adam and Kristi’s different visions for their future together, and some of the ways they did not get on the same page. Adam wanted long-term financial freedom while Kristi could not see the value in that. The tension that created added to the other rifts in their marriage, making it difficult to blend their lives into one vision.
Kristi says she did not have the maturity needed and together they did not have the tools that would have made a difference. Learning to compromise, to submit to one another, and value the other’s opinions and requests are some of the ways marriage can grow us to become more like Christ. Ephesians 4 exhorts us to take action in this process; giving us active steps to follow that bring us in line with God’s vision for relationships.
When we ask God to help us grow in unity, this requires humility, sacrifice, and learning to be more selfless. But the path of growing into more Christlike character not only brings joy and unity into marriage, it also glorifies God.
After you watch the video, talk about the following questions.
- What were your families of origin like? In what ways were they different? In what ways were they similar?
- How have your families of origin affected you as an adult and a spouse, both positively and negatively?
- What is one rift you had in the early part of your marriage? How did you handle it? Did you resolve it?
- Are you on the same page with your finances? If not, will you begin to work on that together?
- What is the most difficult thing for the two of you to get on the same page with? How can you both compromise to bridge the gap?
As you answered the questions, what did you learn both as individuals and as a couple? What is a good next step for the two of you from what you learned in Day 2? today’s devotion and scripture reading?
