In But Not Of: Here, But Not Home—Part 1

DAY 1 OF 5

Here, But Not Home

Imagine there’s a knock on your door and a man in a suit is standing there with a huge envelope. He announces that you are leaving today on your dream vacation. All you need to do is pack your bags and grab a friend, and you’ll be on your way.

No matter how great your vacation was, there would come a time that you’d be ready to go home. After a while, you’ll want to be back home, sleeping in your bed, back with the rest of your friends and family. Vacations are good and vacations have a purpose, but you can’t live on vacation forever.

Your life here on earth is like a vacation that is used in preparation for your everlasting home.

Jesus, the Son of God, left His home in heaven to come here on a mission to rescue you and me from sin and death. Jesus used prayer as His lifeline and connection to His home as He was away during His ministry and mission here. We see this homesick desire Jesus had in John 17:5 NLT: “Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.”

There are difficulties that will come your way and hard things you will have to endure, but when you can remember that this world is not your home, it gives you strength to endure and a purpose to keep you focused while you are here. Jesus was here, but not home. You are here, but this is not your home. You were made for more.

How can a heavenly perspective get you through the difficult things ahead today?

About this Plan

In But Not Of: Here, But Not Home—Part 1

As believers, we live in the tension of the hope that is coming and the reality of the present. This tension is summed up in the longest recorded prayer of Jesus in John 17 as He prays to God over His disciples and all believers to live in this tension in such a way that brings glory, honor, and understanding to His name.
