Resilience in Leadershipনমুনা
Filtering tough decisions
A leadership aspiration is to find consistency between deep convictions, actions, and impact. There is a need to articulate a framework for decision-making in the lives of leaders to ensure sustained direction and effectiveness, even in the midst of any turbulent, complex and/or rapid environment.
Having a system that filters our intentions through the sieve of the word of God is extremely valuable in leadership. As a leader, it is important to ask yourself, “What is the frame of reference through which I align my walk?”
The Apostle Paul shared a series of perspectives that can facilitate moving in that direction, for example, when he referred to the fact that although something is lawful, it does not necessarily mean that it is convenient and/or edifying (1 Cor. 10:23; 6:12).
Some other valuable questions around this reflection for wise decision-making would be:
Isit legal? Is it fair?
Does it add value to others?
Does it suit me? Does it edify me? Does it dominate me?
Would I be proud if my family and my community know about this?
Does it give me deep peace? Does it align with my Bible-based value system?
Does it align with the call of God in my life?
Is it representative of what God wants me to do?
Am I the one who should do it?
Is this the right time to do it?
Do I do it from arrogance or from obedience to God?
Although these questions can help us refine our perspective, it is important to recognize that God still wants to speak to us daily through His word and His Holy Spirit. This is our true security to have wisdom and make the best decisions in times of difficulty.
To Reflect: Wise decisions are largely grounded on a clear system, self-reflection, and dependence on God.
