Real Hope: Seeking God's Purpose

DAY 4 OF 5

God's Purpose Is Found in Peace

PEACE: Freedom from disturbance, tranquility.

RULE: Control, or have dominion over.

Are you a fan of the Royal Family? Their lives make for great headlines and beautiful wedding photos, but, while you scroll through what’s being said about Meaghan and Harry today, it’s easy to forget that the Queen and her remaining posse aren’t just celebrities. They’re in charge of the 16 realms of the Commonwealth. How’s that for a line on your CV? The Royal Family knows what it means to rule. They are the head honchos, but they’ve got Prime Ministers to deal with and people who want to abolish the monarchy.

God makes it clear in Colossians that the peace of Christ should rule over our hearts. Not "day-spa" peace, or silent peace, but God-infused, Holy Spirit-led deep stillness and rest. For the peace of Christ to rule over our hearts doesn’t mean anxiety or confusion aren’t present. They just don’t get the final say; like the Queen, peace has its subjects.

When something or someone rules over your life, it orients your direction. If fear is your leader, you may pull back. If bitterness is your guide, you walk in resentment and distrust. The surest way to walk in God’s purpose for your life is to follow His peace—to actively “let,” to allow, to invite it to sit in authority over your heart. Proverbs 4:23 [NIV] tells us that everything we do flows from our hearts, so what can you do today to seek His peace and let it guide you?

About this Plan

Real Hope: Seeking God's Purpose

The word "purpose" means the reason something is done or created or exists. For Christians, we know our purpose is to glorify God—but how? Our prayer with this plan is that you would start to delve deeper into the purpose that God has called you to.
