Daily Bible Reading - November 2020 God's Life-Giving Word of Praise and Thanksgivingনমুনা
November 29
Introduction
Written in the wisdom tradition, this psalm reminds us that death comes to all—rich and poor—and that wealth provides no protection from death. The psalm also reminds us that those who trust in themselves and their wealth are doomed, whereas the righteous are assured that God will rescue and save them from the power of death.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 49
Today’s Key Verse: Psalm 49:15
God will rescue me; he will save me from the power of death.
Reflect
Verse 14 states that, for those who are doomed, “Death will be their shepherd.” How does this verse contrast with the words of Jesus who says, “I am the good shepherd … My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never die. No one can snatch them away from me,” (John 10:11a, 27, 28)? Verses 12 and 20 provide a refrain that underscores the theme of the psalm. What were your thoughts as you read this psalm? What can be learned from this psalm?
Pray
Almighty God, I place my trust in you and in your never-ending love and care. You are a loving shepherd, and I seek to follow you. Keep me close to you, and guide me in the way of your truth. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those facing difficult financial decisions
Tomorrow’s Reading
