Rise Up & Stand Firm—A Study of 1 Peter (Part 4)

DAY 5 OF 5

Rise Up. Resist. Do Not Give Up.

You made it! We’re at the end of our study, but remember to finish strong with today’s notes. Review all of your study notes and consider some of your key takeaways from studying 1 Peter. Be thinking of ways you can live out what you’ve learned, and consider who you can tell about all you’ve discovered. I’m praying and believing that your study will help you rise up and stand firm in your faith, no matter what obstacles come your way!

Pray:

Holy Spirit, I love You. Please keep me focused and teach me today.

Today’s Goal:

Consider how you will take what you’ve learned from this study and apply it in your life, using it to fuel you as you rise up and stand firm in your faith.

Study Tip:

Take your notebook and skim over yesterday’s study notes. This is important because we want to make good connections from what we learned yesterday.

Read and Write:

Read through 1 Peter 5:8-14 and write down your observations.

  • What alarming, lion-like qualities does your enemy have? List them out.
  • Look at your list and explain why an alert and sober mind is essential.
  • List three other essential ways to engage against the devil’s attacks (See verse nine. Note: The Greek word for resist means “to take a complete stand against” or “to oppose.”)
  • What four things will God do for Christians after they have suffered? (Consider looking up definitions of these words.) When do you think God will do these things? In this present life, in the life to come, or both?
  • Write a summary of 1 Peter 5:8-14.

Note: “She who is in Babylon” is widely considered as referring to the church in Rome.  And Mark, also known as John Mark, is not Peter’s literal son, but rather his son “in the faith,” co-laborer, and author of the Gospel of Mark.

Reflect:

  • How does knowing that other Christians have suffered, are suffering, and will suffer attacks encourage you?
  • List at least three ways you can resist or stand your ground against the devil.

Apply:

Peter has written a letter of God’s truth and grace to encourage and equip the suffering Church. Now it’s our turn. Rise up. Stand firm. Hold your ground. Continue on. Do not give up!

  • Based on your study of 1 Peter, in what ways will you rise up and stand firm?
