The Art of Neighbouringনমুনা
Loving One Another
At the very beginning, we see that God created man. He created man and woman in His likeness. He created us to be in communion with Him and one another. Human beings were not primarily created by God to fulfil a list of tasks, but rather to form relationships—our mandate to work came later.
In speaking with His disciples, Jesus in John 13:34-35 says “a new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
We can clearly see here that our love for other believers should be a testimony to the world that we are Jesus’s disciples and how God intended people to love one another. Within a church community, we are to love, just as Jesus loves us.
The world in which we find ourselves is often divided, lonely, and fragmented. We are divided by race, political views, cultural differences, and different beliefs. Relationships are easily disposed of when one becomes offended or things become strained and difficult. But as the Church, we need to show the world how to build healthy, authentic relationships that can withstand the pressures of the times.
Our love should speak of being united with one main focus and goal—that of loving God and loving people. This does not mean we are to be the same, but rather our diversity and individuality are to form a beautiful tapestry of believers who together work towards bringing God’s Kingdom here on earth. We should be a people marked by a mutual love and respect fueled by love from the Father.
When you think about the word “community” what feelings are invoked? Does talking about community heighten a sense of loneliness; does it make you feel anxious, or do you feel excited? Are you committed to a life-giving church; if so, are you a member who plays their part in loving others and spurring one another on toward love and good deeds?
