Spirit: Helper, Guide, Godনমুনা
The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper
Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as the Helper or the Advocate, depending on your translation. Think about the role of an advocate.
An advocate does more than passively cheer us on. To advocate for someone is to support and defend them, to stand up for them, and promote what would be in their best interest. That’s who the Holy Spirit is for you!
When you ask Jesus into your life, you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. He lives in you; so wherever you go, the Holy Spirit is right there with you, reminding you what is true and guiding you toward godliness.
It’s the Holy Spirit who gives us the power to follow Jesus. He speaks to us about who Jesus is, what He has taught (John 14:26), convicts us of righteousness (John 16:8), and guides us to the truth (John 16:13).
Life will not always go smoothly, but we will always have the Holy Spirit with us. As we learn who we are in Christ, the Spirit empowers us to live a life that reflects Jesus no matter the difficulties we face.
Oh, and you know those moments when you have so many feelings but don’t know what to say, the Holy Spirit promises to help us in our weak moments, turning our groans and cries into prayers (Romans 8:26-27).
No wonder Jesus said, “it is best for you that I go away because, if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come” (John 16:7).
About this Plan
Who is the Holy Spirit? What’s His role in our lives? For some, the Holy Spirit is a dear friend. For others, He’s a bit of a mystery. For the next seven days, get to know the Holy Spirit and discover why Jesus said it was better for Him to leave, so that the Holy Spirit could come (John 16:7).
