Her Story: Encouragement for Women in Business

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: The God who Sees you

Crisis always brings with it a set of challenges. One thing that has become clear in the current global pandemic is our universal human desire to feel seen, heard, and valued within the context of community. Real community, however, can only be achieved through authentic living.

As a business owner, it is easy to hide the most vulnerable parts of ourselves behind the busyness of the demands of our work. If we are not careful, our routines can distract us into thinking that movement of any kind is productive and purposeful. That is not always the case. For example, a successful return on our marketing efforts does not measure the success of our roles as wives, mothers, sisters, or friends.

In order to fully live authentically, God will sometimes allow a pause to our hustle so that a deeper work can begin. This deep work may require confronting guilt for things we have neglected to pursue purpose, or addressing disappointment at sacrifices that did not yield the expected results. Authentic living rests in the fact that we cannot hide any part of ourselves from God, who is Jehovah El-Roi, or “The God who sees me.”

As a Christian businesswoman, God sees all of you—the parts that are highlighted on social media, the parts that customers see, the parts that are anxious about the future, and the parts only your spouse and children see. This means whatever it is that worries you, angers you or disappoints you is not a surprise to Him. Right where you are, He wants to take the truth of your whole identity and weave it into one glorious testimony that extends even beyond the reach of your business.

Reflection Question:

1. Are there any areas of my life where I feel forgotten by God? How does knowing He sees me change those feelings?
