The Heart of God Towards the Poor and Suffering

DAY 11 OF 14

There are two components in serving others that are very important: being deliberate and being practical. There is a very good chance that if we go through our day reactionary, we will miss what God wants to do through us to help those in need. It requires prayer and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit when we serve others.

Todays verse comes from the book of Job, named after the main character. Job was a man who went beyond any standard to care for the oppressed and needy. In this verse it describes Job as one who searched out causes to help others. He searched out, meaning he was deliberate in his service towards others. He was proactive in helping the suffering and needy. Job didn’t wait for opportunities to serve to fall into his lap; he went out and found ways he could help.

Continuing on to chapter 31, Job lists how he treated the poor. The passage talks about Job being a man who fed and clothed those who were hungry and naked. He was a man who was practical in his service. He didn’t just say a prayer over a person, although that is important; Job found a practical way he could serve someone. He understood the importance of coupling the gospel with a practical action.

Let us be Christians like Job who search out causes to give to. Let us be Christians who don’t just wait for opportunities to come our way, but that we would be proactive and find ways to serve those in need. This means being both deliberate and practical in our service.

Today, be challenged to search out a way to help someone in need.
