Devotional Day 5 - Fruitful
Knowing the true vine, being pruned by the gardner, and remaining in Jesus are all for one purpose—so that you can bear fruit. On day three, we talked about how God will prune away fruitful areas in our life so that we can produce even more fruit. What does this fruit look like? How can you know if you are producing the kind of fruit that Jesus is looking for?
The kind of fruit that comes from a connection to Jesus is different from any fruit we can produce on our own. Being fruitful doesn’t necessarily mean holding the door open for someone at school, saying something encouraging to a friend, or praying before a meal. Now those are good things, but you can do any of those things without connecting to the true vine. The fruit that comes from a connection to Jesus is a spiritual and out-of-this-world fruit.
In Galatians, Paul wrote about these fruits and he called them the Fruit of the Spirit. As we connect to Jesus, these spiritual fruits begin to become evident in our life. They aren’t private—they are visible to everyone else around us. Are these fruits evident in your life?
Thanks for completing this reading plan! We pray that this helped you get connected to Jesus. We would love to hear from you on how God used this plan in your life. Keep the conversation going by emailing us at keeptalking@secc.org.
