YEET: Things to Throwনমুনা
Let’s face it… this is probably the weirdest Bible study you’ve come across, right? That’s ok! Do you want to know something weird? God called the most unlikely of people to do the unthinkable for Him!
Think about it. Noah was asked to build an ark… in the middle of the desert. Abraham was old… and was told he was going to have a baby. Moses had trouble speaking… and was told to go to the most powerful leader and tell him that he needs to let God’s people go.
If you look throughout the Bible, you’ll find that God regularly used the unlikely to accomplish the unthinkable. Maybe you’ve never considered this, but did you realize God has a plan for you, too? But there’s some things we have to ‘yeet’ first! This study is all about things that we need to give over to God, so we can follow him fully!
In Matthew 4, we see that Jesus called the unlikely to follow him in ministry. Peter and his brother Andrew were out fishing. They weren’t exactly your typical ‘religious leaders’. And yet, Jesus called them. Jesus said in Matthew 4:19-20 (NIV), “‘Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
I hope you’re reading this very carefully: GOD IS CALLING YOU TO FOLLOW HIM. You may not know what that fully looks like yet, and that’s ok; neither did Peter or Andrew! But they left everything behind to follow him.
You have to ‘yeet yourself’. Ha! You don’t have to throw down your net and tackle, but you DO have to take that first step in your faith, saying ‘Yes, Lord, I will follow you’. It’s not so much about an ACTION as it is a DECISION (ironically, once you make a DECISION, your ACTIONS will follow).
Ask yourself, “Am I FULLY following Jesus?” I think we can agree (even if we’ve been Christians for a while) that we’re almost always lacking in some way. No matter where you are in your walk with God, ‘yeet yourself’ and tell God “Today, I’m choosing to follow you.” Let’s pray:
God, you are so good! Thank you for always being there for me. I’m choosing this day and every day to follow you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
