There's Hope For Today

DAY 68 OF 366

Like many in the middle years, he had left his faith far behind. He admitted to being a failure as a husband and father. Alcohol dulled the pain. Adultery filled the void. His career soared in spite of his personal troubles.

He was a big time newsy … the station chief for the Associated Press in Beirut. He covered all the big stories until, quite suddenly, he became a big story himself: Terry Anderson was kidnapped and held hostage for 2,454 days. Fearing for his life, shuffled between safe houses, blindfolded and chained to a wall, Anderson was suddenly and completely alone.

What do you do when the rug is jerked out from under you? Where does a man turn when he has nothing left but injustice, fear, anger, and despair? On his twenty-fifth day of captivity, Anderson asked for, and incredibly received, a Bible. It became his most precious possession. A revitalized faith grew out of his study and memorization of Scripture.

What incredible power God has invested in His Word! The combined works of history, fiction, poetry, and prose could never have pierced the hellish darkness of that hostage nightmare, yet God’s Word held this shattered man together and brought him through the darkest night.
