There's Hope For Today

DAY 244 OF 366

There once was a man who sinned against me, and I struggled to drag him before the throne of God for judgment.

Every time I got a real good grip on his collar, I lost my bearings to the King’s throne room. For years I exhausted myself trying to drag my oppressor to justice – until I met a wise old sage. “What are you doing with that man?” he asked. “I’m taking Him to God’s judgment seat,” I cried. “So it is God you seek?” he asked. “Only He can judge between this man and me,” I replied. His eyes flashed bright and he offered his help. “Just turn to the right, and over this rise you will find God,” said he. I thanked him and hurried my prisoner over the rise, but when I topped the hill, I found no judgment court. I found my King – but He was hanging on a cross.

That cross revealed my sin in such fullness, I immediately scanned the horizon to see if anyone else could see my shame. In that moment, I knew that I had no hope of escaping the penalty of my sins. But then, with the King’s dying breath, He took my sins away. Suddenly, the scene was changed.

I stood alone in perfect peace … and what of my prisoner, you ask? I lost my grip when I caught a glimpse of the cross – I lost my case to grace!
