There's Hope For Today

DAY 24 OF 366

Two attitudes speak to a wrong and right relationship with the Father.

The arrogant young man demands an early distribution of his inheritance. His complete absence of humility and submission, as well as his intention to pursue a wasteful course leave little to be desired. Two words mark him for his greed and impertinence – “Give me.” And so, the Father gave him what he asked for and the party began.

It’s amazing how foggy things become in affluence and how clear in poverty. His vision is finally restored in a pigpen. His position is perilous. Deciding to go to his father, he demonstrates a true change of heart. Rather than saying, “Give me another chance,” or “Give me back my place and title,” he says, “Make me.”

Our daily prayers often mirror the darker side of the prodigal son. We spend much of our time before our Father pleading – “Give me.” Rather we should pray, “Make me, Lord. Make me what You want me to be.”

The adolescent and wayward son submits demands.

The wise son submits himself.
