There's Hope For Today

DAY 204 OF 366

Uzzah evokes genuine sympathy. For a thoughtless moment clothed in good intentions, God killed him. It doesn’t seem fair.

He worried that the Ark of the Covenant might be damaged when the oxen stumbled. His reaction was one of instinct – and still God killed him. His sin was the sin of irreverence. He did not afford the Ark the sanctity; the Holy fear that God expected. To fault God in the matter is to call His sovereignty into question. We would be better served to take a lesson from the tragic events at Nachon’s threshing floor.

Our world is increasingly casual about everything. We have moved sex from the bedroom to the front room. We have flouted moral law and devalued all things holy. Our political parties are abandoning us to worship the “fuzzy god” of public opinion. God’s world is full of rights and wrongs; virtues and sins; blessings and rules.
Our world is full of maybe and kind of; if you feel like it and if makes you feel good; please yourself and follow your instincts. Take it from a dead man named Uzzah – your instincts may lead you into danger.

God’s Word must be honored and His precepts obeyed, lest even our finest intentions lead to certain disaster.
