There's Hope For Today

DAY 109 OF 366

Amby made his high school junior varsity basketball team but he didn’t get to play, except for the last few seconds in blow-out games.

He was a poor player on a poor team, coached by a frustrated man. One day in practice the coach lost it: “You guys aren’t accomplishing anything on the court today. Get out there and run the cross-country course!” Nobody wanted to run the three-mile course behind the school, but when the coach says run – you had better run. Amby’s life changed that day. A mile into the run he realized that he was a better runner than the rest of the guys. He literally left them in his dust. The next year he went out for the track team. Eventually, Amby Burfoot won the Boston Marathon.

I wonder what would have happened to Amby, were it not for a frustrated coach and a run that came packaged as punishment. The coach didn’t know what he was doing when he sent the boys out to run, but God knows what He’s doing with every beat of our hearts.

The very thing you’re grumbling about may be God’s way of revealing your destiny. Amby Burfoot is now the executive editor of Runner’s World magazine and a successful author to boot. God knows who you will be. Trust Him in all ways to guide your steps.
