Daily Bible Reading - August 2020 God's Life-Giving Word of Forgiveness and Mercyনমুনা
August 26
Introduction
In Zechariah’s second vision, the four ox horns represent the four major enemies that had threatened Israel and Judah and were symbols of power in ancient times. The third vision is of someone measuring the city of Jerusalem so that a wall can be built to protect it. God promises to live in the city “in all his glory” (2:5). (Read chapters 2—6 in the book of Nehemiah to learn more about the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall.)
Scripture Reading
Zechariah 1:18—2:13
Today’s Key Verse: Zechariah 2:10
The LORD said, “Sing for joy, people of Jerusalem! I am coming to live among you!”
Reflect
In the second vision, what do the four workers with hammers represent (1:20-21)? In the third vision, God promises to be a “wall of fire” around the city to protect it (verse 5). The “wall of fire” symbolizes God’s protective presence (see Exodus 13:21, 22; 40:34-38). In what ways do you experience God’s protective presence?
Pray
I sing for joy, Lord God, because you have come to live among us. Thank you for your protective presence and surrounding me with your love and grace. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Cities being restored
Tomorrow’s Reading
Zechariah 8:1-23: The LORD promises to restore Jerusalem.
