Ascension Day

DAY 11 OF 11

Full of Expectation

And then he was gone. Jesus was carried up by a cloud and was no longer visible. The disciples kept on staring to the sky for a minute, but Jesus was no longer there. Two heavenly messengers were standing next to them when they turned around again. They came with a good message: though He is gone, He will return again! Maybe it was the message from heaven that all had gone well.  Yeah, you never know, do you? It is something! It does not happen every day, that someone is just carried up into heaven. The last time it was the prophet Elijah, who was fetched with a chariot of fire which was pulled by horses of fire, and a whirlwind.

And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!" So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. (2 Kings 2:12-13)

The mantle stayed behind, along with the wonders that followed. Many signs and wonders done by the prophet Elijah, have been described since Elijah left.

So, as it is at Ascension. In a way, the mantle of Jesus had fallen off and picked up by the believers. A special time would follow, after the descent of the Spirit of the Almighty.

Ascension is also a celebration of full expectation of what is going to happen. The Holy Spirit is going to come. And there is something else to be expected. "This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." (Acts 1:11).Our hearts are pounding from expectation.
