ASSURANCE FOR ETERNITY
We are in week three where we will get to understand that we can live with assurance of our faith and also how to fully surrender to Jesus and His life.
Did you know that when we die, our body will separate from our spirit? Did you know that your body will perish, but you will live forever? The only assurance that we could have for life after death is because of our faith in Jesus.
Many people feel unsure and fearful whether future mistakes could jeopardize eternity for them. They are apprehensive about God rejecting them and fear that they will forfeit eternal life or it may influence their eternal future.
How can we know with certainty that we will inherit eternal life? We need to return to the words of Jesus where He establishes a paradigm about heaven.
John 17: 1-3: After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
From these words of Jesus, we determine that Jesus gives eternal life, it is a gift that you could receive with certainty. We also discover that eternal life is a state of quality relationship with God, rather than just a place. The same author, who was also known as the beloved disciple wrote in another letter about this matter.
1 John 3:2: Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
It starts with the assurance that we are children of God. And then continues to assure us, that due to the personal knowledge and experience of our congruence with God, our eternal future is defined. That means that eternal life starts now, but we will experience the fullness and depth thereof when we die as God’s children.
We do not know when and how Jesus will return, but we know that we will be secure in our relationship with Him.
Daily Affirmation: "Thank you Jesus that I will live with you forever."
Action Step for Today: Consider some of your fears about eternity and write down your gratitude as stated in the affirmation for today.
