God’s Got This
It is so easy to get overwhelmed in trying to meet our children’s needs, that we may feel like giving up. But how do you give up motherhood? You can’t.
I had my babies 18 months apart. My husband worked over 80 hours a week, which made me feel alone through motherhood. We decided that I would stay home; which restricted our finances. Plus, we lived far from any family. I desired help that I did not have nor could afford. There were a lot of tears through my first years of being a mom from the babies and me.
A psalm says, “I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.” God is your greatest Helper. He will give you the strength you need each day. Reflect on His faithfulness. Think about the time a friend provided a meal for your family, or a time you found a Bible study with childcare and met other amazing mamas. God never stops working. He sees you and knows your needs.
We all try our best at this mom life. Nothing makes us more or less of a mother: Not staying home or going to work, co-sleeping or crib sleeping, formula or breastmilk. We are still mothers, no matter what we decide. If you are feeling overwhelmed and heavyhearted, you may be depending on your own strength. We think that when children grow older, we will be less tired, but motherhood never stops. Your love for your children never dies. I am a 37-year-old woman who still calls her mom. The mom life is a journey for the long haul. There will be seasons through this that you will not “got this!” But God does. God’s got you!
God is a God of relationship. He desires a connection with His children, just as you desire one with your own children. They will experience battles and struggles no matter how well you raise them. Build a heart-to-heart connection with them so that when they’re going through life, they will want to come to you. You may be the greatest reflection of Christ your children will see. They will know grace through the grace you give them. Learn from God, your loving Father. Ask for help. He will guide you through each phase of mom life.
