Heath Adamson: The Sacred Chase Devotional Day 3
“Treasured”
Deuteronomy 7:6 says, “The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession.” This verse refers to God setting a group of people, called Israel, apart, as his own.
First Peter 2:9–10 shows us that, in Christ, this is now our identity as well. We are God’s treasure. He loves us, not because of what we’ve done but because of who He is.
With this truth in mind, as we look at the current reality of life, and all that went into bringing us here, sometimes what we think, feel, and experience leads us to a different conclusion. Rather than feeling treasured by God, sometimes we feel forgotten. This occurs when we allow our circumstances to dictate how we perceive God.
One of the main reasons people don’t begin or continue the sacred chase of living a life devoted to discovering the love of God is because they feel God isn’t there or isn’t involved, or because they think God is not approachable. I believe much of this comes from a saying often heard when life gets hard. Whenever tragedy hits, someone will say, “Oh well; God has a purpose.”
Try telling that to the ones who were abused. To the children who grow up in poverty because of gambling debts. Did God really choose this to be His grand plan for their lives?
Romans 8:28 reminds us that in all things, God works for our good. For whom? The scripture says, “for those who are called according to His purpose.” Although God may not cause everything to happen day after day, like whether you’ll choose to eat a cheeseburger or tacos for lunch, He is certainly with you right where you are. He actively partners with you in life (Eph. 1:11). He does this by introducing you to the real you.
Right now, regardless of your situation and experience, you are positioned and invited by God for a greater connection with Him. The circumstances we would typically use as excuses to avoid the sacred chase actually serve as the delivery system for our divine invitation. Now is the time to set aside the excuses, the shame, the laziness, the apathy, the busyness, or even the good things life is often filled with to notice the One who loves and treasures you.
Are there any excuses you have been hiding behind in order to avoid pursuing the sacred chase with abandon?

About this Plan
The sacred chase is the audacious pursuit of God and God’s reckless love for you. All of heaven desires to see your life soaked with the reality of God’s presence. As Heath Adamson reminds us in this week-long devotional, pursuing this is worth all of your efforts. The prize is the reality of Jesus in your life today.
