1. When Jesus told this parable, it was common for two invitations to be given for a banquet like this. In verse 17, the servant is sent out to those who had been invited, suggesting that these people had already said ‘yes’ to the invitation. What do the last-minute excuses for not attending say about the guests and how they viewed the invitation?

2. Jesus told this parable to some of the religious elite of the day. In what ways do you think Jesus was trying to challenge them with this parable?

3. How do you think the religious leaders would have responded to hearing that the invitation went out to the poor, crippled, blind and lame? Why?

4. In verse 21, the master told his servant to, “...Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.” Why would this be shocking to those hearing the parable?

5. What do you think are the main points Jesus wants us to know from this parable?

6. What do you think this parable says about God? How does this affect you and how you think about God?
