Suffering and God’s Love: A Moving Works Studyনমুনা
God’s Faithfulness
Chloe ends on a climatic note—we witness the fruition of a beautiful story over twenty years in the making! Joy bursts forth as the Manises recount God’s faithfulness throughout their journey. Walt declares, “There’s no mistake I am the father of this child just like God had always planned it to be.” He goes on, “He [God] doesn’t leave anything to chance…it’s not random and it’s just amazing.”
Has it ever struck you that God doesn’t leave anything to chance? The God who spoke creation into existence and hung the stars in the sky is the same God who intimately works out the details of your life. Your life is not random. Your story—who you are, where you live, the circumstances of your life—are all a part of a bigger story, God’s story.
Seeing God’s Faithfulness Through Jesus Christ
The Bible tells one grand story of redemption, which highlights God’s faithfulness to mankind through the person and work of Jesus Christ. It shows how humans sinned against God by disobeying his Word and how God immediately promises to deal with Satan, sin, and death by sending a Savior. So humanity waits…and waits…and waits for the Messiah. Years turns into hundreds of years which turns into thousands of years and still no Messiah. We begin to wonder: Will God be faithful to his promises?
Yes! God is always true to his Word. Today’s reading highlights this through the birth of Christ. There was a man named Simeon who was promised he would see the Lord’s Messiah before dying. When he saw Jesus he took the baby in his arms and blessed God for his faithfulness to rescue his people. In that moment, as Simeon held the hope of the nations in his arms, he was holding proof of God’s faithfulness.
We shouldn’t be surprised at God’s meticulous orchestration of the Manis’ lives. This is the God who orchestrated all of human history to send his Son to redeem those under the curse. If God is faithful to his greatest promise, can’t he be trusted to fulfill all his lesser promises? His providential rule may not always seem evident to you in the midst of difficult seasons or periods of waiting. But you can trust God to perfectly work out your individual story because he has shown himself faithful to perfectly plan and fulfill the greatest story ever told.
