The New Testament in 90 Days

DAY 81 OF 90

Introduction to Revelation

We know John, author of John, 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John, wrote Revelation because he mentioned his name four times throughout the 22 chapters. His original audience was to the seven churches in Asia—Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. It is believed he wrote Revelation around A.D. 95 from the island of Patmos, where he was in exile for preaching the good news of Jesus.

Revelation comes from the Greek word for apocalypse and refers to something that is unknown. This book provides the most accurate view of the Tribulation, which is a time of judgment for those who are not covered by the blood of Jesus. So much of the book uses symbolic imagery. The last four chapters of the book tells us about the main message of this book—Christ’s triumph over evil and the new world for believers.
