Growing in Hope

DAY 4 OF 43

God is Love, Pt. 2

Yesterday we focused on the end of the verse that says God is love. As we really begin to understand this truth, we will see that it impacts the rest of our lives as followers of Jesus.

Here are a couple of very important takeaways from this Bible verse:

1) When you become a follower of Jesus, you also become a child of God.(Read John 3:16, John 1:12, & Ephesians 1:4-6 to learn more about that).

2)  LOVE is the evidence that we know God.

Many people say that they have a relationship with God, but they are not willing to love other people. But God is saying in these verses that if you do not love people, then you really don’t even know Him. He wants you to love everyone—your family, neighbors, coworkers, strangers, yourself and your enemies. You are probably thinking that many people don’t deserve your love, and you’re right. They don’t. Just remember that you don’t deserve God’s love, but He loves you anyway! (See Romans 5:8)

The same incredible, unconditional love that God has for you, He has for each person. He wants you to love others as well. He will not force you to love others; you must choose to do so. It is often not easy to love others and you cannot do it on your own. But when you choose to love others, God will help you.

What are some practical ways you can show love today?

Prayer:
God, thank You for loving me! Please forgive me for my unloving thoughts, attitudes and actions. Help me to see others as You see them, so I can love them like You love them. If I say I love You, I know I must love others as well. Show me how I can practically love people, and help me love You more! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
